Plans are in the works for the former Hotel Quinte property in Belleville’s Downtown District however city council will have a say
Monday on exactly how those plans play out.
The property’s owner is proposing to build a six-storey condo building with a partial seventh storey which would hold 108 condo units.
However, the development proposed also includes the property next door to the hotel property at 217 Pinnacle Street.
That has been the site of an impressive century old two-and-a-half-storey building and the home of a few physicians over the years.
It now holds Diamond Physiotherapy and has some residential use.
On March 1, the developer applied to the city to demolish that building.
The property and building has been listed as being of historical and cultural value since 2014 and heritage consultants say it meets several criteria for being listed under the Ontario Heritage Act.
City council will have before it a staff recommendation that it be designated as being of historical and cultural value under the act which would in effect protect it from the wrecking ball.
