The wind made a grass and brush fire in Quinte West hard to control Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters from Station 3 responded to Bayside in the area of the Stan Klemencic Care Centre for Hospice Quinte, around 1:40 p.m.
Stations 4, 5 and 7 were also called in for equipment support.
OPP were also on scene.
At one point the fire stretched hundreds of metres.
There was at least one home in the area evacuated as flames got closer.
Fire crews had the fire under control about an hour later but were still on scene as of 3:30 dousing hot spots.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan says the cause is under investigation.
