Due to Easter weekend, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is not updating its COVID-19 dashboard until Wednesday but the provincial website shows active local cases have increased by more than 300 since last week.
The most recent Public Health update was last Wednesday which showed 497 active cases.
The provincial website indicates there are 774 active cases as of Monday with 332 new cases reported since last Thursday.
The actual number of cases in the region is likely much higher since access to PCR testing remains restricted.
The province’s website also shows two more COVID-related deaths bringing the total number of deaths across Hastings and Prince Edward Counties since the start of the pandemic to 53.
The latest provincial data shows there are at least 1,301 people in hospital with COVID-19.
That’s an increase of about 19% from a week ago.
There are 202 people in intensive care – the highest number since March 16.
