Some funding is coming to Quinte West this year for infrastructure work.
Mayor Jim Harrision, who is currently at the Good Roads Conference in Toronto, was able to get confirmation the municipality will be receiving approximately $1 million.
“It’s approximately $1 million coming for Lorne and Shuter water, sewer and rebuilding of the road. We just got approval, I guess total approval yesterday. We knew that the provincial government supported it, but finally the federal government is now supporting it. So it’s approximately a third, a third, a third.”
Harrison says this funding will come this year.
He says the Premier and Minister of Transportation spoke and both indicated they are spending billions of dollars on infrastructure over the next five years.
Harrison says this is fantastic news.
“Because the infrastructure has just been a major, major issue for all of us as our roads and bridges are deteriorating at a rapid rate.”
He also noted the government also discussed continued investing in internet to provide a better and stronger internet connection for rural communities.
