Quinte West’s mayor says he is pleased with the liberal government’s pledge of more than $8 billion in new military funding over five years.
Jim Harrison tells Quinte News the funding, announced in Thursday’s federal budget, is necessary to improve military equipment, training and more at CFB Trenton and beyond.
“They’re all over the world helping us to be healthy and safe, and doing a, doing a job that’s so worthwhile. And thanks to everybody and thanks to the federal government’s support. It is much needed.”
The budget wasn’t clear on what the majority of the money will be used for though most of it isn’t earmarked to be spent until later years.
There will also be a review of the country’s military priorities and plans as Canada and its allies face growing threats from Russia and elsewhere.
