On paper, building activity in Brighton appears to be down significantly from a year earlier but officials say that’s not really the case.
Last month, the municipality issued 10 permits with a construction value of about $1.1 million.
In March 2021, 22 permits worth $50.7 million were issued.
However, approximately $48 million of that total was for one project, a new retirement residence known as Brighton Retirement Living that remains under construction and is set to be completed later this year.
Year-to-date, 34 permits with a construction value of $5.9 million have been issued.
Through the first three months of last year, Brighton issued 39 permits worth $52.7 million but, taking away the retirement residence, the year-to-date building value was actually less than this year at just over $2.7 million.
