Council in Prince Edward County is hoping to help address period poverty in the municipality.
Councillor Kate McNaughton put forward a motion following an impassioned presentation from Hastings Prince Edward District School Board Trustee Alison Kelly and student Ramona Roblin addressing an issue which is not talked about much.
Roblin asked councillors to do their part to help address period poverty by providing menstrual products in public bathrooms.
She said this will immediately help the homeless, as well as those who cannot afford to purchase menstruation products as they are quite an expense.
Councillor McNaughton sought a staff report be brought back to council about providing menstruation products in community washrooms, which was approved.
