Enrolment in the four-day camp that serves both to build self-confidence and encourage a career in fire service for girls has hit the halfway mark.
Belleville and Quinte West Fire departments have teamed up to present Camp Molly for a total of 35 girls between the ages of 15 and 18 in mid-July.
The girls will be introduced to all facets of the fire service, from suppression to investigation to communications.
Belleville Fire Chief Monique Belair, who spearheaded the initiative, says there will be no cost to the girls involved in the camp, adding that currently only four per cent of the province’s firefighters are women.
Applications are still being accepted for Camp Molly.
