Several amendments are being made to Prince Edward County’s Parking By-law, some of which support the 2022 Tourism Management Plan.
Prince Edward County Committee of the Whole recommended the changes at its meeting on Thursday.
One major change is in the North Beach area where the municipality would introduce parking permits for residents to park in designated spaces on County Road 20 and in the parking lot at Bakker Road.
Failure to display a resident parking permit would result in a seasonal fine of $400.
Destination Development & Marketing Coordinator Karen Palmer says details are still being worked out.
“I think we’re really thinking about, how do we make this non-transferable? You know, is it a sticker? Is it a pass? And how are we, sort of, verifying residents’, you know, status and those kind of things. So we’re working out those details.”
The passes would be available for pick-up at several municipal buildings.
Council did approve one amendment to the proposed parking changes in Picton.
Councillors Phil Prinzen and Phil St. Jean both expressed concerns about a continued lack of parking on Main Street.
Both councillors noted there are several reserved parking spaces in front of the Royal Hotel that are rarely used by limos or taxi.
Councillor St-Jean’s motion to direct staff to investigate adding parking spaces in front of the Hotel was passed.
