Prince Edward County’s 2022 Tourism Management Plan appears set as Committee of the Whole recommended approval of the plan on Thursday.
The plan is similar to 2021 though one change increases capacity at Wellington Rotary Beach from 350 to 425 people.
Councillor Mike Harper expressed some concern regarding overflow parking which is currently south of the community centre.
CAO Marcia Wallace says areas like the school parking lot and the former Duke Dome aren’t available right now.
“We don’t have anything definitive in terms of additional parking. We have been talking about signage so that those who don’t find it a hike to come from the arena, better understand that is a municipal parking lot and that is a choice that they could go to. But for other options, we’re still exploring.”
A pass will still be available for County residents so they do not have to pay the $10 fee to use the beach.
The Patio By-law remains basically unchanged from last year.
“So what staff are recommending is that we do that deeper dive into all the different options and the best way to manage patios and bring that back for next year so that we can have this conversation before we start to look to the 2023 season.”
