The 4% Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) earned Prince Edward County more than $1.21 million in 2021.
Prince Edward County Committee of the Whole received a report from the Finance Department at Thursday’s meeting.
Taking away approximately $80,000 in related administration costs, the remaining $1.12 million was split evenly between the County and the Destination Marketing Organization.
The County used about $115,000 of its share in 2021 for various expenditures leaving just over $450,000 in the Reserve for MAT.
In its 2022 Operating Budget, Council approved sending $220,000 from that reserve to the Reserve for Roads Construction.
The County also drew just under $125,000 from the MAT Reserve for this year’s Tourism Management Budget.
There were 2,548 MAT remittances to the County last year.
The tax went into effect February 1, 2021.
Council received the report for information and took no action.
