Hastings Lennox & Addington MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman issued a statement on the agreement between the Liberals and NDP saying this is not what Canadians voted for.
Kramp-Neuman says it has been clear since Parliament convened in September that the NDP and Liberals have been in talks to form a left-wing alliance.
She says this option was not on voters’ ballots last fall.
While not surprised, she says she is extremely disappointed.
Kramp-Neuman says the decisions that affect the citizens of Hastings-Lennox and Addington and the entire country are supposed to be debated and voted on the floor of the House of Commons, not secretly negotiated in the back rooms of the Prime Minister’s Office.
On Tuesday, it was announced the Liberals and New Democrats have agreed on a deal that will see the NDP support Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minority government through to 2025.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says the agreement between his party and the Liberals represents a bold step forward on dental care and pharmacare and that his party is using its power in a minority government to advance its priorities.
Interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen is calling it a Liberal-NDP government, and says the deal will lead to the decimation of Canadian oil and gas.
