Belleville police responded to 151 calls for service between 5 a.m. on March 18, 2022 to 5 a.m. on March 21, 2022.
Mischief
On March 18, 2022 at 9:39 a.m., police were called to a business on Moira Street West in regards to mischief to a business vehicle. Sometime between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m., an unknown suspect smashed out the front windshield of a company vehicle causing approximately $250 damage. Police are reviewing video to identify the suspect.
Warrant
On March 19, 2022 at 8:20 a.m., Belleville police were contacted by Lennox & Addington OPP and notified that they had 34-year-old Matthew Johnston of no fixed address in custody on an outstanding warrant from the city of Belleville. Belleville police took custody of Mr. Johnston and held him for a bail hearing on a charge of Fail to Comply with a Probation Order. He was later released with a court date of April 14, 2022.
Intoxicated Pedestrian on Hwy. 401
On March 20, 2022 at 5:08 a.m., Belleville police were contacted by the OPP requesting assistance. Police were notified that there were reports of an adult male staggering around on Highway 401 just west of the Highway 37 overpass. Belleville police attended the area, located the 26-year-old man from Belleville and apprehended him for his own safety under the Ontario Liquor Licence & Control Act. The male was taken to the Belleville Police Service to sober up and was later released. He was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Public Intoxication.
911 Hang-Up Calls for Service
The Belleville Police responded to twenty-one 911 hang-up calls for service over the weekend. City police would like to remind the community that 911 is for emergency purposes only and that if you dial 911 by accident, please stay on the line to speak to a dispatcher.
