Here’s a statistic that might surprise you.
There are 193 registered sex offenders residing in the City of Belleville.
At Thursday’s Police Service Board meeting, Chief of Police Mike Callaghan commended Detective Constable Ann Earle-Dempsey who checks on whether offenders are following the conditions given them by the court.
“We need to ensure that there’s a significant accountability component on these sexual offenders to make ensure they don’t have the propensity or the likelihood for committing additional sexual offences in our community.”
With Detective Constable Earle-Dempsey making personal visits and otherwise monitoring the offenders, the Belleville Police Service has a 98.3% compliance rate, above the provincial average.
