On Monday, March 14, 2022 at approximately 4:10 p.m., a member of the Central Hastings OPP was conducting patrol on Hwy 7 when they attempted to engage a motor vehicle in a traffic stop.
The officer attempted to identify the driver who falsely identified herself.
The identities of the female driver and male passenger were confirmed and information obtained showed that the female was currently on conditions not to be in the Central Hastings area.
As a result of the ensuing investigation, police arrested and charged both the female driver and male passenger of the motor vehicle.
The driver, Fana Abay, 28 years old of Mississauga was charged with:
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Disobey Order of Court – 2 counts
- Possession of Property obtained by Crime – 2 counts
Abay was also charged with:
- Speeding
- Driving while under Suspension
- Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance
Fana Abay was held in custody and subsequently released with her next scheduled appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 17, 2022 in Belleville Ontario.
The passenger, Ryan Sweeney, 38 years old of Toronto was charged with:
- Identity Theft – 2 counts
- Possession of Property obtained by Crime – 2 counts
Ryan Sweeney was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 28, 2022 in Belleville Ontario.
