Belleville police responded to 60 calls for service for the 24-hour period beginning at 5 a.m. on March 14, 2022 to 5 a.m. on March 15, 2022.
Domestic assault
On March 14, 2022, at 10:20 a.m., police received a call from a woman stating that a friend had disclosed to her that her husband had hit her several times the night before. Police located the female who advised that she had been assaulted. The female was taken to Belleville General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and the male was located a short time later. A 57-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with one count of domestic assault. He was released and will appear in court on April 11, 2022. His name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
Arrest on warrants
On March 14, 2022 at 11:40 p.m., police attended a Turnbull Street address regarding an unwanted person. Police were advised by the complainants that the unwanted person was 34-year-old Cynthia Newnham of Belleville who was also wanted on outstanding warrants for fail to attend for fingerprints, fail to attend court, public mischief, false alarm of fire and fail to attend court. Newnham was arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service where she is being held for bail on March 15, 2022.
