The vast majority of respondents to a survey on a new public transit route in the Cannifton area do not want to pay higher taxes to pay for the continuation of the so-called Route 9 bus.
Belleville council will see a report outlining the survey results at its meeting Monday.
Seven hundred and eight property owners in the built-up area of Thurlow ward just north of the 401 responded to the online survey.
They were asked if they would support paying an extra 210 dollars in local taxes a year on a property assessed at $300,000 to help pay for the continuation of public transit.
Eighty seven per cent of respondents would not.
Meanwhile it’s expected the Route 9 service will continue for another year after the pilot project ends in September but will be paid for by sources other than property taxes.
