Residents in Quinte West can expect an increase of approximately 1.93% this year on their tax bills.
Council passed the 2022 operating budget on Monday night during a special council meeting.
On an average home in Quinte West valued at $250,000, the tax bill would increase by $60 a year.
The majority of councillors were happy with the budget, noting the increased cost of living, and felt this was a budget that was financially prudent for residents while still managing to accomplish what the city needs.
The budget continues to contain an increase of 1% which is being allocated for capital.
Staff made adjustments to the budget and made the change from a 2.82% increase by making a $50,000 adjustment to revenue, $297,500 from reserves and $206,200 from potential operational savings.
Councillor Don Kuntze was the sole vote in opposition to the budget as he felt the money shouldn’t be coming from reserves to decrease the tax levy and the initial budget presented in February was the budget he felt they should be sticking with.
