A mini makeover is in store for one of Belleville’s most recognizable sites.
On Monday, Belleville Council will discuss accepting the proposal from Magnum Opus Carpets Inc. to replace the dining room and master bedroom carpets at Glanmore National Historic Site at a cost of just under $144,000.
The UK-based mill making the carpets will use materials appropriate to the period.
The existing dining room carpet is approximately 100 years old, dating to the 1920s and can no longer withstand visitor foot traffic.
The existing master bedroom carpet is not historically accurate, being an indoor/outdoor carpet from the 1970s-1980s and will be replaced with something historically appropriate.
The last major project was the installation of reproduction Wilton carpet in the halls, stairs and reception room in 2015-2016.
The project was approved in the city’s 2022 capital budget and will be funded by the Municipal Accommodation Tax.
