There was a tragic collision on Highway 401 early this morning in the Quinte region.
Five young people in a minivan were killed in a collision on the 401 westbound near Wallbridge-Loyalist Road after a collision with a tractor trailer.
The collision occurred at around 3:45 this morning in snowy and windy conditions.
The Quinte West fire department had to use the jaws of life to extricate people from the vehicle and five ambulances responded.
Two people survived the crash but were seriously injured.
No other detail is known at this time and Highway 401 westbound between Belleville and Trenton remains closed.
