Another event in support of Ukraine will be held in Belleville this weekend.
The event is billed as a poetry fundraiser and will feature readings of Ukrainian poet Vasyl Symonenko, grandfather of one the event’s organizers, Myra Symonenko.
He was a well known poet, journalist and activist in Ukraine who died in 1963 at the age of 28 following an encounter with Russian police.
He is said to have had an enormous impact on the rise of the national democratic movement in Ukraine.
There will also be some education about Ukraine and updates about what is going on in the country.
The event is a fundraiser for the purchase of protective gear for civilian volunteer defence groups.
Organizers hope to raise $10,000.
The event starts at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 13 at Christ Church on Everett Street.
