A new high school is coming to Quinte West.
The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) has been granted permission from the Ontario Ministry of Education to open a new high school.
This fall, the first cohort of students will begin Grade 9 at École secondaire catholique L’Envol, which will be located within the existing elementary school. A new grade will be added every year, with Grade 12 coming on stream in 2025-26.
In consultation with current Grade 7 and 8 students and their parents at L’Envol, it was determined that the new Catholic high school will have a sport-study focus in its inaugural year. Students with a passion for the arts, trades and other interests will also be able to follow a personalized academic path catered to their own dreams.
“I am excited to see this new hybrid high school take shape,” said CECCE Chair Johanne Lacombe. “The fact that we are offering this instructional model is a clear indication of how much the CECCE’s education experts have learned and how much progress they have made since the start of the pandemic in the realm of online learning.”
Trustee Michel Charron sees this as excellent news for the communities of Trenton, Belleville and Quinte West.
“I am grateful to the Ministry of Education for recognizing the need for a francophone Catholic school in this area,” Charron said. “I am committed to ongoing collaboration with the CECCE administration to develop innovative and stimulating programs that are built around students and their needs and dreams.”
