Council in Prince Edward County is showing their support for Ukraine.
Councillors voted on Tuesday night during their regular council meeting to raise the Ukrainian flag at Shire Hall until the end of April.
Councillor Bill Roberts sought to do a little more and asked for a donation of $5,000 to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Crisis Appeal of the Canadian Red Cross and that members of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) be encouraged to donate as well.
When asked where the funds would come from, CAO Marcia Wallace said the municipality would find the money somewhere in the operating budget.
A second motion sought to have AMO and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities immediately advocate for strong Canadian support of the international criminal court’s investigation into alleged Russian war crimes against humanity.
All three motions passed unanimously.
