The Quinte Arts Council Gallery marked its reopening on Tuesday, International Women’s Day, with the first post-pandemic show.
The show – Rise: Because we are equal 2022 – celebrates the voices and aesthetics of women artists.
The Gallery opening included a poetry performance by Abena Beloved Green and remarks from Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciiuk. Janet Jarrell, Executive Director, Quinte Arts Council, says, “As an umbrella organization that represents the collective interests of our artist members and member groups with the mandate to elevate the arts community as a whole, our goal is to offer this space as a beautiful gallery, vibrant workshop and performance hub for artists of all disciplines — a creative place to accommodate a wide range of arts programming and educational activities for residents and visitors of the Quinte region.”
Jarrel adds, “Quinte Arts Council is excited and honoured to feature and empower so many artists as part of this important and beautiful show.”
The new QAC Gallery and Offices was designed by Krista Ross with support from the Parrott Foundation, the Ontario Arts Council, Arts Response Initiative and the City of Belleville.
Thirteen local artists are featured at the gallery for the month of March.
They are Maria Moreno, Ilse Nel-Landers, Sarah Winn, Lola Reid Allin, Briana Godden, Barbara Hogenauer, Lise Lindenberg, Melissa Brant, Adey Singer, Sabrina Jovic, Shani Doucet, Adey Winters and Ella Wagner.
