There was almost no discussion at a meeting of Belleville’s Planning Advisory Committee Monday in regards to what has been a controversial proposal
to build a hotel on Millennium Parkway.
Councillor Bill Sandison said credit should be given to residents on Cloverleaf Drive and the committee itself for pushing back on two previous proposals,
the first a five-storey hotel and the second a four-storey hotel.
The developer’s latest plan and the one rezoning was approved for was for a three-storey hotel on vacant land beside Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services.
The recommended rezoning would also allow for a tree buffer at the back of the hotel property and an increased rear setback.
The plan was first brought to the planning committee two years ago but was fiercely opposed by people living in the neighbourhood.
Council will have the final say on the matter in the near future.
