Council in Quinte West will be taking a second look at the 2022 operating budget on Monday night.
Director of Finance Caleb DenOuden is bringing back the budget during council’s regular meeting for approval.
Council directed staff last month to bring forward a budget with a tax increase under 2%.
DenOuden is bringing forward a budget which sees an average residential tax increase of 1.93%.
He says in his report to council this was achieved by making $50,000 in adjustments to revenues, $297,500 taken from reserves and $206,200 in potential operational savings.
Councillors were also concerned with the $2.3 million operating surplus seen in 2021.
DenOuden says the surplus was a result of external factors which delayed spending and the same surplus is not expected in 2022.
Council and staff are continuing to support a 1% capital levy increase to update aging infrastructure.
The meeting will be held virtually and begins at 6:30 p.m.
