Two people are facing more than 80 charges following a months-long investigation into numerous break-ins across the OPP East Region.
The Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) began investigating in October of last year.
During the course of the multi-jurisdictional investigation, the CSCU was assisted by the OPP Canine Unit, East Region Emergency Response Team, Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement, many frontline officers, and OPP analytics teams from across many OPP patrolled areas.
OPP recovered a multitude of stolen property, including firearms, and on February 23, arrested two individuals.
Fifty-year-old Wayne Sweet of no fixed address and 30-year-old Matthew French of Bellevile face charges including including break and enter, theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime – under $5000, mischief, fail to comply, theft over $5000, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of break-in instruments, possession of controlled substance, unauthorized possession of a firearm, as well as over 35 Highway Traffic Offences.
The accused remain in custody with a bail hearing scheduled for Monday, February 28.
