The Government of Ontario has announced that youth aged 12 to 17 will be eligible to receive a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine 168 days after receiving their second dose, as of Friday, February 18.
To ensure youth can get their booster dose as quickly as possible, a special pop-up clinic will be held on Family Day — Monday, February 21 — from noon to 4 p.m. at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street).
People aged 5 and over who are eligible for their first, second or third dose of the vaccine are welcome to attend the vaccine clinic in Picton without an appointment on Family Day. Walk-ins should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the end of the scheduled clinic and should bring their Ontario health card.
Research from around the world has shown the importance of getting three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Three doses are better than two doses at:
- Protecting you from getting COVID
- Stopping you from spreading COVID
- Protecting you from getting so sick from COVID that you have to go to hospital
Two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine do not work as well as three doses against Omicron, the dominant COVID variant. Protection from two doses starts to decrease around three months.
