Some know Belleville’s Kyle Woolven for his YouTube videos which poke fun at all matters of life, including his home town. One of his videos about Belleville has been viewed more than 130,000 times.
This week his comedy efforts were noticed in Canada’s largest city.
Thursday night, Woolven was named the winner of the 3rd Annual Toronto Sketch Comedy Competition. His submission on the real estate market (available below) was chosen from over dozens of submissions.
Woolven tells Quinte News about the submission process.
“Then you had to get people to vote for you to move onto the next round. Judges were involved in the top 10 to pick the final four, and then decide who the winner was.”
Woolven describes his video.
“Called Buys Houses. It’s a song that’s just about the housing market. It’s poking fun at the investors who are trying to get all these people to sell them houses. Just seeing all these signs around and just constantly getting bombarded with these fake letters in the mail saying they’ll buy your house for cash. All these signs that just say someone’s name, that they’ll pay cash for your house. I just got to thinking this doesn’t seem right.”
When we asked what the win will do for his career, Woolven did what he does best, and that is make a joke.
“Not much (laughter). Some people saw it, which is great. The judges who (were) voting were good name judges. I’d like to be involved more in the Toronto community. But as far as making the big bucks, becoming a famous person in Toronto, not going to happen. I’m not complaining, it’s good”
