The Medical Officer of Health for Hastings Prince Edward continues to encourage vaccination for children 5 to 11 years of age.
The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board shared a letter from Dr. Ethan Toumishey Wednesday in which he calls the vaccine safe and says it adds another layer of protection against the virus.
Dr. Toumishey says there are multiple places to get vaccinated however Public Health is offering support to families who want to get their kids vaccinated but are unable to because the available options don’t work.
Parents can complete a confidential consent form and return it to their school by February 16 and Public Health staff will contact them to discuss alternatives.
Children under the age of 18 years who cannot receive vaccinations safely at their doctor’s office, a
vaccination clinic, or pharmacy due to anxiety disorders, needle phobia, or developmental and
behavioural disorders can receive their vaccine at a specialized immunization clinic at Children’s
Outpatient Clinic at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston.
These clinics require referral by a health care provider or community agency.
Forty-three percent of Hastings Prince Edward youth aged 5 to 11 have received one dose of a COVID vaccine with 19% having received two doses.
