Several hundred people and over 150 trucks and other vehicles took part in a local Freedom Convoy Wednesday in Trenton to protest vaccine mandates.
The convoy began at Centennial Park and travelled through parts of Trenton, ending at City Hall.
The PPC candidate for the Bay of Quinte in last fall’s federal election, Janine LeClerc was among the speakers and let her views on the COVID vaccine be known.
“As we see doctors, nurses, police, military personnel, first responders and even local blue collar workers coerced into jabbing so they can feed their families or they’ve been fired for not complying to this experimental jab.”
Shelby from Trenton took part saying the government needs stop mandates.
“I support ending all mandates. I think we’re at the point now we need to live with this just like the flu. It’s took a toll on everybody’s mental health, it’s took a toll on everybody’s freedom to live, it’s took a toll on our children.”
“There’s vaccinated, there’s unvaccinated people. It’s not about the vaccine. It’s about the mandates that they’ve been putting on people and they’re just power hungry and power tripping now.”
Health Minister Christine Elliot says Ontario won’t be following the lead of Alberta and Saskatchewan in moving to quickly end mask mandates and COVID-19 vaccine certificate programs.
Elliott says Ontario intends to keep those measures in place for a while longer but didn’t say exactly when they would lift.
She indicates the province will stick to its reopening timeline that relaxed some restrictions on businesses and social gatherings last week — with further rollbacks at three week intervals.
