There’s concern about recent resignations and the morale of management and staff working for the Municipality of Brighton.
At a future meeting council will vote on a motion by Councillor Emily Rowley that a human resources firm be hired to interview current and former staff along with council members.
In the past year and a half, five management personnel left Brighton but Mayor Brian Ostrander said two retired and another couple left to earn more money.
The mayor said he won’t support increasing the budget by spending an estimated $100,000 on consultants.
“We’re going to be adding another percent and a half or so in order to cover the cost of somebody listening to what I think is gossip and rumour.”
Ostrander believes council should be setting policy, not micro-managing the municipality’s business.
” … how some members of council are interacting with staff and I’m pretty sure we’ve got some interference with staff that’s causing things to be difficult for our management crew so we need to get to the bottom of that.”
The issue will be discussed at Brighton council’s February 22 meeting.
