The Member of Parliament for Bay of Quinte riding is pressing the government to approve two COVID-19 vaccines capable of being produced in Canada.
Ryan Williams stood in the House of Commons Thursday wondering why the government hadn’t approved two vaccines that could be made at two facilities in Quebec when both were submitted for approval early last year.
Williams said approval would create Canadian jobs and contribute to vaccine availability worldwide.
The vaccines under discussion were Novavax (protein-based) and Medicago (plant-based).
Also Thursday, Williams suggested that some of the $70 billion proposed in the government’s bill C-8 should be invested
to increase the capacity of the healthcare system across the country.
“Would it not be better for all Canadians that instead of money that helps businesses that are shut down that it should have been money preventing the economy from being shut down? This bill (C-8 contains provisions in the economic and fiscal update from December 14) is no different. This $70 billion needs to be spent now in health care transfers to increase capacity at hospitals, in ICUs, and hiring doctors and nurse practitioners.”
Bill C-8 is currently in second reading.
