There could be a bit more of a tax break coming for low-income seniors in the City of Quinte West.
The Corporate Finance Committee is recommending council approve increasing the tax rebate for
low-income seniors and those on disability allowances to $500 from the current $400.
This would be the maximum rebate allowed under current policy but staff is bringing back a report
on the feasibility of allowing a cost of living increase on the rebate each year.
Last year 129 people applied for the rebate, costing the city a little over $50,000 in lost tax revenue.
