The recent success of Car4Cancer for the Belleville General Hospital Foundation gave oncologists at BGH’s cancer centre reason to celebrate. Ticket sales raised over $120,000 for the Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Oncology Clinic late last year, with winner Larry Shannon driving away in a brand new Cadillac CT4 Sport, courtesy of Peter Smith GM.
Response to the initiative was such that organizers at BGHF have decided to rerun the campaign, this time teaming up with local trailer dealership – Carl Cox RV.
All the proceeds from the new initiative will support the purchase of life saving cancer treatments at Quinte Health Care Belleville General Hospital. Business Manager Catharine Cox-Semenuk said, “We are so excited to partner with the Hospital Foundation on this project. Like many people our family has lost loved ones to the disease in recent years and we want to make a real difference to how cancer care is delivered across the region.”
With one in three Canadians now diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, Belleville General Hospital Foundation Executive Director Steven Cook explained, “The Dr. Douglas MacIntosh Oncology Fund has helped save the lives of cancer patients since 1979. These new lottery partnerships and initiatives provide a vital platform to help fund new, cutting edge drugs and treatments for patients across the entire region. We can’t thank Carl Cox RV enough for supporting our vision and partnering with us for this Super Draw.”
As a Level 3 Cancer Centre, Belleville General Hospital sees over 15,000 cancer patients annually. With local migration to the area, an aging population, and improving survival rates, that number is forecast to grow into the future. While provincial drug funding programs cover the majority of this rising price tag at no cost to patients, the process of approval for new therapies can often lag behind the research that supports it, creating a gap in patient care. Camp4Cancer intends to help bridge that gap in funding.
Tickets to win the $35,000 Forest River R-Pod RPT193 Trailer can be purchased online at www.camp4cancer.ca. Tickets are $25 each, or 5 for $100 or 15 for $250. The draw will take place at 10 a.m. on June 30, 2022 at Carl Cox RV. Additional early bird prizes are available for early bird ticket purchases before Friday, March 25,2022.
