On Wednesday, Erin O’Toole lost a vote to remain leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.
The party’s members of Parliament met virtually to cast secret ballots after about one-third of them signed a notice that triggered a leadership review.
In connection with this, Conservative MP for Hastings Lennox and Addington Sheby Kramp-Neuman issued the following statement to Quinte News:
Earlier today (Wednesday), our Conservative caucus voted to remove Erin O’Toole as leader.
I want to start by thanking Erin and his family for the sacrifices they have made for the country and party. I have no doubt that he will continue to be a strong voice for his constituents in the House of Commons.
I am in Ottawa right now, experiencing history in the making. It is a unique and humbling honour to be your Member of Parliament.
Far too often elected officials forget why they were elected and who sent them to serve. It is especially easy to lose sight of this when internal political jockeying comes to the forefront. All members of our Conservative caucus, and indeed all Members regardless of where they sit in the House need to have clarity of mind and thought, and especially on days like today, remember what we are here to do; to represent Canadians. Representing the people that elected me to Ottawa is my first and foremost concern, my duty. Today has not changed that.
