The City of Belleville is now seeking feedback from residents in Cannifton Urban and Cannifton Rural on Route #9 transit service.
During 2021 operating budget deliberations, Belleville City Council approved expansion of transit into Ward 2, to be funded through the City’s Provincial Gas Tax Revenue account. Because Gas Tax Revenue funding was limited to the first year of the new service, subsequent years would then require the service to be funded through taxation.
Ward 2 property taxes do not currently include a public transportation component. Operating transit service in Ward 2 beyond its first year of operation will have operating budget impacts.
With the first year coming to an end in September 2022, the City of Belleville is now seeking feedback from Ward 2 residents residing in the areas currently serviced by Route #9, on the service and their interest in funding public transportation in their region.
All property owners who pay property taxes for a property in Cannifton Urban or Cannifton Rural tax billing area (the service area for Transit Route #9) are encouraged to complete the survey below before Feb. 25 to have their say. Those unsure of which tax billing area they reside in are able to use the online mapping tool to confirm using their address.
