Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Belleville, Quinte West and eastern Northumberland County.
Snow is expected, beginning this afternoon, with 10-15 cms possible. The weather agency reports there will be reduced visibility due to bursts of heavy snow and local blowing snow into tonight.
A band of lake effect snow, with peak snow fall rates near two cm per hour, is expected to develop off Lake Ontario this afternoon. This in combination with scattered flurries associated with an advancing cold front will make for hazardous travel conditions across the region. The snow bands will be pushed out of the region tonight as winds shift to a northerly direction in the wake of the cold front.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution.
Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
