As many hospitals have had to do during the COVID-19 pandemic Campbellford Memorial Hospital is adding acute care beds in spaces not usually used for that purpose.
Because of the spread of the Omicron variant, Campbellford Memorial has at times been operating as high as 40% over capacity.
Because of the increased number of patients, hospital management is converting the day surgery recovery area to hold acute care beds.
And there are plans in the works to do the same in the ambulatory care clinic if patient numbers continue to grow.
Meanwhile staff at the hospital are exhausted as many have had to miss work due to having to self-isolate. Part-time staff have been working full-time and many staff are coming in on their off days to deal with the demand for care.
