The provincial government is investing $1.7 million over the next two years to encourage community collaboration to help address cybercrime.
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith is encouraging eligible organizations to apply for the Safer and Vital Communities Grant.
Smith says the grant will help community-based, not-for-profit organizations and First Nation Band Councils implement projects that would be run with community partners like the police, and are focused on awareness and prevention of cybercrime.
“Aimed at making sure that we’re battling cybercrime and other heinous acts in the community like human trafficking, and hate crimes and fraud. And really what it’s about is making sure there are partnerships to hit as many community organizations as possible.”
Grant applicants may request up to $55,000 for each of the two years.
“So applicants are required to partner with the local police service and at least one other organization to develop educational campaigns and cybercrime prevention strategies and online training resources and outreach programs to reach as many people as possible.”
Applications for the SVC Grant are available from Transfer Payment Ontario.
The deadline to apply is March 4.
