Ice cleaning in Frankford is going green.
The City of Quinte West will be using an electric ice resurfacer at the Dr. McMullen Recreation Centre.
The machine uses lithium-ion batteries that allow for quick charging between ice resurfacings.
This new battery-operated machine will eliminate approximately 17 to 19 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, known contributors to climate change.
“It’s always nice to get new equipment, and even more so with this new state-of-the-art machine,” says Andy Conger, assistant manager of buildings, facilities and arenas. “Staff are excited by how quiet and efficient it is.”
“We’re very excited to add this new environmentally friendly machine to our fleet,” says Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “The city continuously seeks opportunities to increase sustainability and minimize our carbon footprint. This initiative supports our strategic priority to be environmental stewards.”
