Lennox and Addington OPP have charged one man after a vehicle was observed without tail lights.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, police observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the 401 in Loyalist Township.
Officers observed the vehicle driving dangerously and initiated a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop and police notified neighbouring jurisdictions of the suspect vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen from Tweed earlier in the evening and the vehicle theft was being investigated by Central Hastings OPP.
Frontenac OPP and Leeds County OPP were able to locate the vehicle and use a tire deflation device to effect a traffic stop and subsequent arrest of the driver. Leeds County OPP transferred the accused to L&A County OPP officers for processing.
L&A County OPP have charged William James Pelton, 34, of no fixed address with:
- Flight from Police contrary to the Criminal Code (CC);
- Dangerous Operation of a motor vehi cle contrary to the CC;
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over 5000 contrary to the CC;
- Eight counts of Operating a Vehicle While Prohibited contrary to the CC;
- Stunt Driving – excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
- Drive without proper rear light contrary to the HTA.
The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on January 20.
