The City of Quinte West has thrown its support behind the Lower Trent Conservation Authority on a Trenton Greenbelt revitalization project.
At Monday’s council meeting, council voted on and approved a staff report recommending they support Lower Trent Conservation’s Trenton Greenbelt project under the Intact Municipal Climate Resilience Fund.
The funding itself is covered by Intact, meaning no money will be needed from the city, however municipal support is needed for other agencies to apply for funding.
The project involves increasing flood resiliency on Front Street in Trenton, improving stormwater infiltration, soil rehabilitation and naturalization using native plants.
Director of Public Works and Environmental Services Chris Angelo also said he asked Lower Trent Conservation to look at in-water work, as this project doesn’t include any.
“One of the things I’ve asked the conservation authority to look at is, and it’s something that I believe Councillor Kuypers has been involved with for a number of years, is improving the shoreline. Removing all those old large pieces of concrete and rebar and revitalizing the shoreline all along that Trent River from the start of the Trent River up until the Veteran’s Skyway Bridge, so that’s something I’ve asked them to look at.”
