Three alumni of the Wellington Dukes have been named nominees for the NCAA’s Hobey Baker Award which is the highest honour awarded in U.S. College Division One hockey.
Defencemen Declan Carlile and Zach Uens and forward Mitch Martan were Wellington teammates during the 2017-18 season which culminated with the Dukes’ run to the final of the Royal Bank Cup.
Uens is in his third season with the Merrimack Warriors in North Andover Massachusetts.
The Belleville born Uens was a 4th round draft pick of the Florida Panthers in 2020.
Carlile is also a defenceman with Merrimack. He spent one season with Wellington.
After two seasons with the Dukes, Martan is now in his fourth year with the Canisius Golden Griffins in Buffalo.
Past winners of the Hobey Baker award include Cole Caulfield, Cale Makar, Jack Eichel, Johnny Gaudreau and Paul Kariya.
