Prince Edward County is on track to fall in line with provincial deadlines regarding their asset management plan.
The comprehensive plan was discussed on Thursday during the Committee of the Whole meeting. The asset management plan covers each department in the municipality due to have data captured for the core infrastructure assets (roads, bridges, water and wastewater and stormwater infrastructure) by July 1.
Director of Corporate and Legislative Services Arryn McNichol told councillors once this system is in place, staff and council can make a more informed decision as to how to allocate funding.
CAO Marcia Wallace said this plan will allow them to stop looking at each department as a silo, and looking at each department as part of a whole.
She said it gets quite expensive if municipalities aim to fix the priorities in each department without looking at the bigger picture, something the asset management plan will allow them to do and better spread funding around where necessary.
The provincial deadline for the core infrastructure part of the asset management plan was originally due last year, but the government extended the deadline because of COVID-19.
Phase two of the asset management plan sees all infrastructure assets accounted for by July 1, 2024 and phase three completed by July 2025.
Council received the report.
