Belleville city council is buying more of a product that will extend the life of its paved roads, saving money on repairs in the long term.
At Monday’s meeting council approved a little over $100,000 for the purchase of reclamite from Superior Road Products.
Manager of Transportation and Operations Services Joe Reid says the city has been using reclamite for a couple of years and are happy with it.
“Over time oxidization happens with the asphalt within, and the rejuvenator goes in and does a
chemical reaction with it and it rejuvenates it and helps extend it.” (life of pavement).
Chair of Belleville’s Green Committee Councillor Chris Malette stressed that the product had minimal impact on the natural environment.
