The Chair of Belleville’s Transit Advisory Committee is hoping city council will finance a new master plan for public transit in next year’s budget.
Councillor Bill Sandison told council Monday the last big transit review was done in 2015 and that the city has grown a lot since then and will continue to quickly grow.
Sandison says a master plan needs to involve several city departments and hopes public transit is discussed before new development receives council’s final approval.
“So you know whether transit is required and if it’s required where would the route go and where would the bus stops be. Also we need to identify and develop funding sources.”
A transit master plan is estimated to cost $249,000 and Sandison says $168,000 of that total could come from development charges.
