Friday’s Hastings Prince Edward Public Health dashboard shows 20 people with COVID-19 are currently in hospital.
Four of them are in the Intensive Care Unit.
In an address to the media Thursday, Quinte Health Care CEO Stacey Daub said seven of the 20 were admitted with COVID while the remainder are incidental, which she feels will happen more because of the transmissibility of the Omicron variant.
Recoveries outpaced new cases Friday with Public Health reporting 116 new cases and 230 resolved cases bringing the number of active cases down to 1,258.
With the change in PCR testing eligibility, only those in the highest risk groups are being tested.
Forty-four of the new cases are considered fully vaccinated with 29 partially vaccinated and 43 unvaccinated.
There are 19 active outbreaks.
Eighty-seven percent of the local population aged five and up has now received a first dose of a COVID vaccine and 79 percent have received two shots.
The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit reported 35 new cases in Northumberland Friday.
There are 544 active cases.
