Brighton’s Trennt Michaud and pairs partner Evelyn Walsh of Stratford are in Ottawa as practices start for the National Figure Skating Championships.
This will be Michaud’s and Walsh’s first chance to qualify for the Winter Olympics. They were one of two teams to skate at the World Championships in Stockholm Sweden last year to give Canada two pairs spots in Beijing. They finished 12th.
Michaud and Walsh would have to finish in the top two at the Nationals, however Skate Canada will ultimately determine who goes to the Winter Games.
The 25-year-old Michaud was born in Belleville and currently represents the Trenton Figure Skating Club.
