Northumberland Peterborough South MPP David Piccini says the transformation of health care will continue in 2022.
Piccini says there are many aspects to building healthy communities.
“Moving from chronic disease management to disease prevention. It means encouraging healthy lifestyles. It means building a more resilient community that supports aging in place. Where we have rural health clinics. Where we’re moving, you know, we expanded home and community care.”
As Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, Piccini says continuing to expand parks and green space will contribute to building communities that are healthy and active.
He also wants to see more protection for Lake Ontario in 2022.
Piccini says he would like to see a dedicated, yearly investment by the federal government into green infrastructure and they have already had some conversations about it.
“So whether it’s water and wastewater. For clean water, for better storm water management so that we’re not discharging sludge into Lake Ontario. We’ve got to protect our, you know, the largest freshwater body of water on the planet. And, we need dedicated funding to do that.”
Piccini says these investments would also help protect areas like Brighton from some of the severe flooding it has experienced over the last few years.
Bringing an expanded transportation network to Northumberland is high on his agenda in 2022.
Piccini says studies have been conducted on bringing the GO network to Northumberland and even further east to the Bay of Quinte region.
“We’ve seen discussions about on demand service in Cobourg. I’m talking in Brighton with connecting into the Belleville network. So, we’re having all sorts of discussions on the east and the west side of the riding I represent, which is great.”
Piccini says the provincial government is also working to bring more environmentally sustainable public transit to communities.
